Time Management at HW

By Eric ’25

Hello everyone! When I first entered Harvard-Westlake, one of the many questions I had was, “How much homework is there?” Everyone around me asked the same question. Eventually, I found the answer: more than elementary school. Now, I know what you’re thinking. “Seriously, Eric? Maybe you could’ve bothered with telling me this before!” But of course, the homework is not bad as it’s made out to be. Each class can only assign a certain amount of homework per night, so this restriction makes it manageable. It can usually be completed over the course of a few hours, perhaps around two to three. Maybe now, you are saying, “Really? Two to three hours is still a lot!” But that’s why I’m here.

Today, we will be discussing time management at Harvard – Westlake. At this point, you are most likely aware of how the system works, but I will give a quick rundown of it either way. Harvard-Westlake manages school time in cycles. Each cycle has six days, days one through six. Each cycle, every main subject has one X – period. In my opinion, these X – periods are the key to time management. X – periods can be utilized efficiently to complete homework, and since each period is 40 minutes, you can complete 33% of your homework during this time!

Another great resource is the library. Not only do you have access to a large variety of informational and fictional books, but there are also areas for independent and group study. The group study area can seat large groups of people, so it’s great for working on team projects. The silent study area is one of absolute silence. For people who want peace and quiet to work, silent study is a great place to be productive by removing all distractions.

Thanks for reading my post on time management at Harvard-Westlake. Maybe you’ll utilize these tips in the future to get work done faster! Whatever the case, I hope you found this post useful.
