The Learning Center at Harvard-Westlake

by Andrea ’26

The Learning Center provides a space for academic support to students at both the upper school and middle school. This space offers help with students’ time management, organization, and study skills. Additionally, peer tutors are ready to assist students with any academic support.

Harvard-Westlake students are extremely busy with sports and extracurricular activities, therefore this resource is one of the many ways the school works to help students feel less overwhelmed. When a student is struggling with an assignment, it is helpful to get assistance from a student with experience in the course or even with the same teacher. This way, students help each other develop strategies.

The Learning Center also hosts many workshops throughout the year which allows for students to focus on one particular topic. The workshops span from focusing on writing lab analysis to writing analytical essays for the various English units. These workshops hosted by The Learning Center also create a fun learning environment for the students to feel welcomed and supported. The group setting provides collaborative learning and a sense of community.

Although it is necessary, at times it is difficult or daunting to ask for additional academic help; however this unique resource creates a safe environment for any student. Many students experience improvements in their grades and overall confidence in various subjects. The support system at The Learning Center strives to help and contribute to the overall success of Harvard-Westlake students.
