Top Spots to Hang Out at HW Middle School

By Megan ’29

During lunch, break time, or a free X period at Harvard-Westlake, students are spread around campus, spending time with friends or catching up on work. Here are some of the top places students love to hang out at HW.

Benches: These benches are along the walkway to the Wang building. You’ll often see students eating snacks or lunch, or chatting with friends. These benches are perfect, but only when the weather is nice. They may seem simple, but they’re one of the easiest ways students stay connected throughout the day.

Lunch Tables: Lunch tables are another popular spot, especially for larger groups. At lunch, friends from different classes come together to eat and catch up. It’s a lively environment that makes it easy to meet new people while still spending time with close friends.

Senior Garden: A more peaceful hangout spot is the Senior Garden, which is located between Wang and Hazy, down a long set of stairs. It is a great place to relax and talk with friends. Its tucked-away location makes it feel like a hidden gem on campus.

Learning Center: For students looking for support or a comfortable place to unwind, the Learning Center is a favorite. Students can receive help with homework, study for tests, or relax on the couches. The Learning Center is especially useful because it is a comfortable spot to relax while also receiving help if needed.

Under Seaver: Another popular hangout is under Seaver, where students often eat lunch or talk with friends. It’s a convenient and familiar space that many students pass through daily, making it a natural meeting spot.

Grade Lounge: Each grade also has its own grade-level lounge that is close to the dean’s offices. These lounges are a nice spot to hang out with friends and relax.

Lockers: Students often stop to talk with friends while grabbing books or between classes. Especially the 9th-grade lockers, which are the only ones inside, have spots where you can sit down and chat with friends in a quieter space.
