Welcome to the day in the life of an eighth-grader at Harvard-Westlake! Today is a pretty chill day since I have 3 X’s (including lunch). I am going to show you through my day at school and give some helpful tips and tricks throughout the day!
6:15 Wake up! I’ve got to get to school early so I can see my friends!
7:30 Get to school and talk with my friends until first period starts.
8:00-8:40 – English. Today we read in class and had fun working on our project. Pro tip: make sure you’re always annotating when reading your English book.
8:45 – 9:25 – History. Today we had a super fun Socrative Smackdown. It was like a debate, and my team won! Pro tip: Make sure you take detailed notes to help with a study guide when the test comes up.
9:25-9:50 – Break! This is a time in my day that I like to take to relax, hang out with my friends, and get a snack.
9:55-10:35 – Third period X. I went into the silent study room in the library to work on my French and history projects. Pro tip: Use X periods as working periods because it is super helpful.
10:40-11:20 – Lunch! From the cafeteria, I got a delicious bowl of pesto pasta and sat on The Commons to eat and chat with my friends.
11:25 – 12:05 – Public Speaking. I love public speaking! We do fun games and activities that have most definitely improved my speech-giving (and writing!) skills.
12:10-12:50 – Sixth period X. This period, I met with my math teacher. It was really helpful and we went over my most recent test so I could do corrections.
12:55-1:35 – Dance! Today in dance, we worked on this super fun, high-energy hip hop number. Dance is one of my favorite classes and we do a wide variety of dances.
1:40-2:20 – Math. I really enjoy math this year. My teacher is super understanding and helpful.
2:25-3:05 – French. French is more than just conjugations and vocab lists. I have learned so much about French culture and it has taught me a lot of fun, new, and interesting things.
3:30 – After this long day, I get to go home. From the car, here are my final tips: If you ever have any questions about anything, reach out to someone! Your teachers are there to challenge you but they are also there to help you. Harvard-Westlake can be challenging at times but you are given many resources and opportunities to help.
